Very RARE Photo of the ORIGINAL 1925 Navy Mooring Mast Airfield. (Photo taken around 1938) This airfield was primarily designed for the US Navy Airship Program and had a wide circle around the field which marked where a tethered airship could swing in the wind like a flag. The white airstrip was made of coral rock (abundant in Ewa). This is one of the EARLIEST of ALL Hawaii Airfields! The plane is a Pan American Boeing B-314 Clipper flying over the Keawe forest and Sisal plants near the airfield. In the background is Ewa Mill, a very large Sugar Plantation and the little community of Ewa and Ewa Station. The line is the Oahu Railway & Land Company track- which STILL EXISTS TODAY thanks to some very SMART PEOPLE that put it on the National Historic Register! TODAY- the US NAVY is BLOCKING the placement Of Ewa Field on the National Historic Register! |
