Mindless Destruction of Ewa-West Oahu Cultural History! Gross bad planning and very poor judgement characterize the WORST BRAC (Base Re-Alignment and Closure) in the United States- at former Naval Air Station Barbers Point. The land actually encompasses TWO former military bases- including Marine Corps Air Station Ewa, which closed in 1948- being absorbed into BPNAS property. The way this Hawaii BRAC was conducted has resulted in MILLIONS of dollars of unnecessary destruction of valuable base buildings and infrastructure from repeated looting, fire setting, vandalizing and trash dumping- all because no adequate security was ever provided or enforced. NEEDLESS destruction of base buildings became the norm for many years. Now- the next phase is MINDLESSLY STUPID destruction of valuable cultural history by LAND DEVELOPERS, with US Navy approval, who ignore professional cultural and historic surveys and INTENTIONALLY plan to bulldoze and destroy these historic sites in the name of WHAT GOOD? Is this "PROGRESS"? There is NO INTELLIGENT PLANNING DESIGN in Ewa West Oahu- just bulldozers and the mentality of "destroying is good." Destroying an American Battlefield and National Landmark candidate by running a NEEDLESS intersection right through the center of it? How STUPID is that? Destroying a 65 year old Horse Stables and Rodeo Arena in what should be a designated Historic District? Grossly Low IQ. Destroying 65 year old PRIDE baseball field used extensively by Ewa West Oahu Little League Teams and where WW-II Marine Ace Pilots and baseball legends once played? HOW IS THIS TOTAL STUPIDITY A GOOD THING FOR EWA? |
