Think you know where the December 7, 1941

attack on Ewa Field was?

Probably 99% of everyone, IF they have heard about it,

THINK it was at Barbers Point Naval Air Station,

OR that it happened over at the Ewa Navy Golf Course Pro Shop.

That's because the small marker the original field once had (that

almost no one knew about) when it was a U.S. Navy Base

was MOVED to the Golf Course, and then moved once AGAIN.

The original field was called

Navy Mooring Mast Field because the Navy had originally planned to have the U.S.S. Akron based there when in

Hawaii. But the

Akron crashed,

ending the project.

Planes could fly up and "hook on" to the Akron and be hoisted inside!

The actual mast for the Akron was built at the Ewa Field and remained for many years, until it was made a Marine Air Field in 1940. The field was just becoming operational when it was

attacked on December 7, 1941.
