TORA, TORA, TORA!

(I Saw Pearl Harbor Bombed in '69)

Also ironic is that while the movie had a HUGE budget for a film of that time, it was a box

office flop in the U.S. when it was released in 1970, yet a BIG box office hit in Japan. Further irony is that after the more Hollywoodized "Pearl Harbor" was released in 2001, which was loaded with computer generated special effects, most war movie fans TODAY rate "Tora" as the better film because it seems today more accurate and realistic. Another personal irony for me is that I bumped into filmmaker Jerry Bruckheimer a couple of times on board the U.S.S. Carl Vinson in 1995 where Navy guests watched a re-creation of the Jimmy Doolittle B-25 Bomber Launch- Bruckheimer had some very nice camera equipment with him- recording no doubt the visual outlines for some scenes in a new movie he was planning for a 2001 release- "Pearl Harbor"…

Today, the Fox DVD, 2-disk special "Tora" edition with the 144 minute movie presented in 2.35:1 theatrical format in color has become a big war movie collector's item.

I'm also still a big fan of Bruckheimer's films and thought that he did a very good job

capturing a 40's era look and feel in "Pearl Harbor". And the B-25 scenes were great!
